Lukaku was left out of Tuchel’s team for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, but hopes to return against Mikel Arteta’s men on Sunday.
In Tuchel’s current 3-4-3 form, there will be two places to fight for behind Lukaku. Against Crystal Palace, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic took on those roles. It seems more likely that Werner will have a role on the left side alongside Lukaku, who has confirmed that he will wear the Chelsea jersey with the number nine vacated by Tammy Abraham.
The 28-year-old Belgian hitman, who returned to Stamford Bridge from Inter Milan, initially received the jersey with the number 18, but took the opportunity to take home the main forward’s shirt after Abraham’s transfer of 34 million pounds to the Rome.
And the former Everton and Manchester United striker is now excited to become the focal point of the Blues attack and show off his leadership qualities.
“Yes, I have the number nine jersey, I am very happy and very lucky to be in the situation,” Lukaku said.
Champions League winners Chelsea started the campaign with a resounding 3-0 win over Palace, and will head to Arsenal on Sunday brimming with confidence.
