Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has predicted that Liverpool will be one of the favorites to win the Champions League this season.
The Reds opened their European campaign with back-to-back victories over AC Milan and Porto, and have a double header against Atlético de Madrid on the horizon.
By contrast, Man United tasted defeat to Young Boys in their first game, before beating Europa League winner Villarreal at home last time out.
Scholes says that even though he doesn’t want to admit it, he believes Liverpool and their local rivals Manchester City are the teams he would like to win the Champions League this season.

“I think Liverpool or Man City will win it,” Scholes said on the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel.
He added: “As much as you don’t want to say it, they are the two teams that do look better in the Champions League.
“Okay, City went to PSG and they were beaten 2-0, but they could have easily won it and they were by far the best team.
“You just think that at some point the City is going to cross the line, they have been knocking on the door for the last few years.
“We don’t want it to happen, but they are a first-class team. Liverpool, again, are also a brilliant team ”.

Scholes went on to express the concerns he has with Man United this season and why they are still behind Liverpool in a key department.
“I think (Scott) McTominay is the best for that role,” Scholes said, when asked who is the best Man United midfielder.
“I would definitely go for him, I think he has it all. He is athletic, he has great ability and he can also move around the field, he is able to sit in that position.
“Ole doesn’t seem to be able to strike the right balance on the team.
“Is he going to play that containment midfielder with the rest around him, with (Paul) Pogba at his side, who he probably doesn’t trust on defense, or is he going to play with two containment midfielders?
“That’s the difference between United and, I think, Liverpool and City. They are much more aggressive and attack-minded.
“City go to Chelsea and play a midfield and almost six or seven forwards, that’s the difference in mentality.
“If Ole can do it well, with that balance in the team. Moving forward is not a problem, we have so many good and exciting players with Cristiano (Ronaldo) on the way.
“Defensively we look very good, everything is there. He just seems to be putting that person in the middle of the field to keep the balance on the team.
“Once I get it right, I think we’ll be fine.”
