Vancouver Police Capture Sexual Assault Suspect After Media Alert – BC News

Sexual Assault Suspect Caught

Vancouver police made an arrest after a disturbing attack on a woman at a bus stop in East Vancouver.

Earlier this week, a man approached a 22-year-old woman while she was waiting for a bus near Knight Street and East 57th Avenue. The man proposed to her and when she refused, he kicked her from behind and threw her to the ground.

“An alert security guard at the Pacific Center Mall recognized the suspect from yesterday’s press release and called the police immediately,” says Officer Tania Visintin, vice president of police.

“The man showed the woman a condom and a pornographic picture on his phone before proposing to her,” according to the Vancouver police statement Thursday.

“The violent and sexual nature of this incident has us very concerned about public safety,” Sgt. Steve Addison said at the time. “We are telling the public about this case, because we are concerned that someone else might get hurt.”

The 21-year-old suspect remains in custody at this time. The investigation continues.
