Many of us take for granted that commercial air travel is safe. By 2018, with around 10,000 aircraft in operation in more than 150 countries, industry leader Boeing had built its reputation on a stubborn commitment to safety. But after 346 passengers were killed when two Boeing 737 MAX jets crash less than five months apart, dedicated journalists, surviving family members and the US Congress are fighting to uncover a culture of concealment and deception in the venerable company.
The acclaimed director Rory Kennedy returns to Sundance Film festival with this comprehensive investigation into the crashes of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302. The families of the victims talk about the human cost of these tragedies, while aviation experts and former Boeing employees reveal what went wrong in the company and offer condemning evidence of lies, negligence and obscurity. CASE: The case against Boeing acts as a burning accusation against a once principled company corrupted by Wall Street’s influence to prioritize profits over everything else.
Rory’s films are all well-researched, informative and can pack a punch – expect nothing less FALD.

American Documentary Competition – HBO
A film by Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes
In the spring of 1972, police raided an apartment on the South Side of Chicago. Seven women were arrested and charged. The accused were part of a secret network. By using code names, blindfolds and secure houses to protect their identities and their work, they built an underground service for women seeking safe, affordable, illegal abortions. They called themselves Jane. To the mafia, the church, and the state, Jane’s displayed unparalleled bravery and compassion for those most in need.
Co-directors and Sundance Film festival alumni Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes uncover this incredibly timely story to demonstrate what the fight for safe and legal abortions was and continue to be an unsafe and dangerous business. Electrifying archival footage of Chicago in the late ’60s and early’ 70s, combined with relatives ’honest interviews with Janes herself, brings the city and its revolutionary spirit to life in the historic moment.
